ACOUSTICALLY, THE WARHEAD™ TOMS OFFER A TIGHTER, MORE PRECISE SOUND
Apart from the innovative shape of the WARHEAD DRUM™ shell, the primary goal was to re-invent the single-headed tom in order to produce an instrument which sounded like a double-headed version, whilst being easier to tune (only one head) but offering more control in it’s volume & overtones.
Acoustically, the WARHEAD™ toms offer a tighter, more precise sound, with a seemingly shorter decay. However, when mic’d up, WARHEAD DRUMS™ become a different animal! A much broader range of resonance can be detected, and from a Sound Engineer’s perspective, they are far easier to deal with than their double-headed counterparts!
Each individual tom has a more precise tuning range, producing much less volatile overtones, thus the need for extra muting via external damping is vastly reduced as each tom’s sound is more self-contained, and sympathetic ‘cross-talk’ with adjacent drums etc. is virtually eradicated. This is also due in part to the fact that WARHEAD DRUMS™’ unique shape helps to contain their volume well enough to be extremely helpful in a Recording Studio environment, as well as Live.
Think of it this way.
An acoustic guitar can sound wonderful acoustically, yet can prove difficult when using microphones. However, an electric guitar sounds like nothing UNTIL amplification is added.
WARHEAD DRUMS™ are the ‘missing link’ between acoustic drum kits and closely mic’d set-ups.
